Minimally processed and refined sugar
Turbinado sugar is made by extracting juice from the sugar cane plant. The juice is boiled to remove excess water, creating a concentrated syrup. This syrup is crystallized to produce raw sugar crystals. Unlike white sugar, which undergoes further processing to remove molasses and achieve a uniform color and texture, turbinado sugar is minimally processed. This minimal processing allows it to retain some natural molasses, contributing to its color and flavor. Turbinado sugar is less refined than white sugar, preserving more natural nutrients and antioxidants from sugar cane, such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium, albeit in very small amounts.
